JANUARY 10

📍 DASEIN ACADEMY & MIDVALLEY MEGAMALL

Today we did our first Design thinking workshop, where I met all of my group, including the Dignity students.

My group included: Myself, Elme, Elle, Chantelle, Yi Ning (Dasein), Carmen (Dasein), Zane (Dasein), Low (Dignity), & Meen (Dignity).

Our first task was to interview people regarding the river and their water usage.

Elme, Carmen, and I interviewed a senior fine arts student about his art practices regarding water, how he travels, what he does first thing in the morning, and his overall opinions about the river.

The rest of our group interviewed a worker at a food store who enjoys the river even though it is a bit dirty, the receptionist at Dasein, who lives in housing by the river, and a tourist who has seen rubbish thrown into the river.

By doing this series of interviews, we were able to figure out things such as:

River = water = an important source.

Little education = bad disposal system = river dumping.

No accountability = no volunteers = government issues = no solution

Education = accessibility = social activities = opportunities

Recycling system = detailed plans = beautification = cleaner river

We then came up with 3 problem statements based on this information:

  1. How might we increase awareness about the Klang River for local residents and tourists to redesign how the people engage with the river, so that it is a place of connection and social capital to satisfy the lack of education and knowledge about the river, taking into account preconceived notions and beliefs.
